I´m using Firefox Developer Edition on Windows. With one of the updates within version 37 youtube videos would not play anymore. I am not sure whether this is due to youtube´s permanent switch to HTML video or to one of the updates. In case someone stumbles over similar issues you can check at youtube.com/html5 what video codecs can be played by your browser. In case you are missing „MSE & WebM VP9“ (see picture) as I did you can tell Firefox to enable that one.

Set the value to true
After reloading the youtube HTML-video page all codecs should be available. In case you are missing other codecs search for media.mediasource and try to set these values to true as well.
Facebook ändert seine AGB zum 30.1.2015. Ich habe vor einigen Jahren aus Jux und Tollerei die Seite www.ausgestiegen.com gemacht. Es war halb als Scherz („lustig, noch eine letzte Ausstiegsmeldung zu hinterlassen, haha“) und halb als Antwort auf den grasierenden Social-Media-Hype gedacht. Leute konnten dort anonym posten, dass sie aus einem sozialen Netzwerk ausgestiegen waren. Ein Teil der Seite war eine Ausstiegsanleitung aus Facebook. Dieser Teil hat es in die Gegenwart geschafft. Da er eine ausgezeichnete Position in den Suchergebnissen bei Google hat, habe ich die Seite am Leben gelassen. Sie erfreut sich einer kontinuierlichen Beliebtheit. Hin und wieder (aber selten in letzter Zeit) gibt es Ausreißer. Und die sind spannend, weil es dafür in der Regel einen Grund gibt. Entweder es gibt (bzw. gab, weil heute interessiert das keinen mehr) Medienberichte im Web, die auch direkt auf die Seite verlinkt haben. Oder Facebook hat sich auf eine Art und Weise verhalten, die einem (zugegeben kleinen aber vorhandenen) Teil der Nutzer sauer aufgestoßen ist. Ich kann das dann in den Nutzungsstatistiken der Ausstiegsanleitung sehen und bin davon fasziniert. Zum ersten Mal möchte ich das veröffentlichen, weil es offenbar doch nicht völlig egal ist, was ein überkapitalisierter Internetmoloch so treibt… wenn auch im (ganz) kleinen Rahmen… 🙂

„The internet will keep getting destroyed. It will keep becoming more and more centralized. You can’t do anything anymore. We tried, we sucked at it. The few people that really did anything are now old, some are even dead. The young ones believe in the system and try to change it from within. It’s like trying to beat capitalism by trying to capture all of the money. Every now and then we win the fight against one of their pressive new measures. Like we did with ACTA and SOPA and PIPA. We congratulate ourselves and feel important. In essence we just lost ten other battles that we even didn’t know about.
We have our own celebrities, we had WikiLeaks, we had Snowden, we had Manning, we had Aaron Swartz. Some are dead, some are in jail. Some are in hiding, scared for their actual lives.
What people reveal, what people fight for are major causes. Freedom of information, liberty, democracy, government of transparency and [unverständlich] process. Things we take for granted that are the basis for a modern safe society. We talk about it a lot, we are upset, we cry, we scream, sometimes we protest. We have T-shirts, we have our symbols, we have our masks, our conferences, our „Transmediale“, our debates, we even get the attention. People in general like us. Our opponents are all fat bastard-whore-corporate-sellouts. They´re mostly rich men from the United States of America. They are super corrupt, it´s easy to hate them, it’s like any good Hollywood movie.
But we’ve all been fooled. We lost. There’s no need in fighting anymore. We lost long time ago by cornering ourselves. There’s no use to struggle. There’s no point in being positive in. The only positive thing about it all is that we no longer have to worry. It’s all predetermined. It’s all a waste. There’s no more any „we“ or „us“. We’re becoming drones. Mind it or not, it doesn´t matter. We built the system, we trusted it because we trusted ourselves. We’re all drones, maybe we have always been that.“

Einige interessante Fakten durchsetzt mit ein paar seiner persönlichen Meinungen (war´s das wirklich und das mobile Google/Apple Duopol ist in Stein gemeißelt?). Interessant finde ich vor allem die Folien ab S. 54 wo es um „social detox“ und Lebenszyklen von sozialen Netzen geht. User wandern weiter, gerade auch im mobilen Zeitalter.
